Fire during maintenance at shipyard in Tuzla
On Dec 17 at 12 p.m. a fire broke out in the storage area of the 'Zein 1', which was undergoing maintenance at the Kuzeystar Shipyard in the area of our Tuzla Regional Port Authority, and engulfed the entire vessel in smoke. Upon notification, numerous fire, police, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. The blaze was brought under control within about 1,5 hours before it spread further, thanks to the immediate intervention of the local fire brigades. The fire crews began working to reach the origin of the fire with the help of a ladder truck, while AFAD and UMKE teams were sent to the area as a precaution. There were no casualties or injuries. No marine pollution occurred. Cooling operations on the ship were ongoing. The releavant authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire. Crew owed two months of wages
45 crew members of the 'Zein I' were owed two months of wages, and the vessel was reported as abandoned in the ship abandonment website of the International Labour Organization (ILO), near the Canary Islands, Spain, since Feb 14, 2022. The P&I Club informed the ITF that the Maritime Labour Convention certificate of the vessel was cancelled at the end of November 2021. As of April 7, the ship was stationary 64.9 nautical miles from Arguineguin.
Engine failure in Canakkale Strait
The 'Zein I‘ suffered an engine damage enroute from Rio Grande to Derince on Nov 9, 2019, at 5.30 a.m. during the transit of the Canakkale Strait. The ship shifted to the anchorage of Karanlik liman where repair works commenced.
