Bulkcarrier thwarted pirate attack

The 'Scarabe' which had sailed on March 24 from Calabar to Owendo with an ETA as of March 27, was attacked by 8-9 pirates in a speedboat/skiff on March 25 at 10.05 a.m. in position 03°07’N, 005°35’E, 79 nautical miles South-West of Brass and 19,7 nautical miles South of the Agbami Terminal. Calabar, in the Gulf of Guinea. After the ship was approached by the pirates at 10 a.m., it started evasive maneuvers. At 10.15 a.m. the AIS was deactivated. Two hours later, the AIS re-emerged and showed was heading south-west at maximum speed after a security unit from the nearby area of ​​Agbami had intervened to provide assistance. The PAG responsible for this attack could continue to operate in the larger area south of Brass for the next 24-48 hours. Therefore, all ships sailing within range are recommended to increase vigilance.
