ZALIV BAIKAL 9360128

May 11, 2011 08:37

An oil tanker bound for an oil terminal at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, turned back due to high water on the flooding Mississippi River, shipping and terminal officials said Tuesday, Reuters reports. An official at Centerpoint Terminal said The Zaliv Baikal was headed there, across the river from downtown Baton Rouge, when the captain and pilot decided not to try passing under the Interstate 10 bridge. A Coast Guard spokesman earlier had said the vessel was headed for Exxon Mobil's (XOM.N) 504,500 barrel per day refinery at Baton Rouge when it was turned around Sunday. An Exxon spokesman said it was not bound for that refinery. The 104,000-ton tanker, carrying 140,000 barrels of No. 6 oil intended for unloading at the 11-tank, 1.2 million-barrel Centerpoint terminal, was 130.2 feet tall and the bridge was 133 feet above the water at the time, the official said. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/05/10/usa-flooding-tanker-idUSN1014075720110510
