Ferry suffered bent propeller blade

Feb 22, 2024 10:31

Washington State Ferries reported in the afternoon of Feb 20, 2024, that the 'Spokane', currently assigned to the Edmonds-Kingston route, has a bent propeller blade and had to be taken out of service in Kingston for repairs. This meant a one-ship service in the night to Feb 21.

Ferry still under repair

Sep 15, 2023 11:20

The Edmonds-Kingston route continued to have one less ferry, and that meant more backups, after the WSF 'Spokane' went out of service in the morning of Sep 13 with a mechanical issue that required repairs. It remained out of service on Sep 14 and 15, and because of that, the route is on an alternate sailing schedule. There were waiting times of up to three hours on Sep 13, and cars were already lining up on Sep 14. As of 6 a.m., the wait time at the Kingston terminal was an hour.

Ferry sidelined due to technical issues

Sep 14, 2023 10:12

The 'Spokane', sailing between Edmonds and Kingston, was pulled from service in the morning of Sep 13, 2023, following mechanical issues, and sidelined in Kingston, causing a 90-minute backup in Edmonds and more than a three-hour wait there. The nature and severity of the mechanical issues were unclear, Crews were diagnosing the problem and trying to determine whether the ferry needed to go into a shipyard for repairs. Crews tested the ship in the afternoon for three hours, believing they could get it back into service by evening. But during the testings, the issue, which appeared to be related to the speed regulator onboard, returned. There were no plans to send a separate ferry to the route, meaning the delays were likely to persist for at least the rest of the day. With just one ship in service, the departures on the Edmonds-Kingston route were all 1,5 hours. Drivers may choose to detour to a different ferry crossing or travel south over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.
