Vsl NEW MEDAL experienced engine failure
Crude oil tanker New Medal (156702 gt, built 2009), carrying a cargo of 290,000 tonnes of crude oil on board, experienced an engine failure shortly after its unloading, forcing an emergency manoeuvre to clear it from the Almirante Maximiano da Fonseca-Tebig terminal in Ilha Grande Bay in Angra dos Reis, Brazil, at 0530 hrs, Oct 13. Subsequently, the incident disrupted the operations in the terminal. The tanker was manoeuvred away from the terminal with the help of five port tugs boats. There was no room for the vessel to turn freely without risk of collision, so the pilot had to lift the anchor and move the tanker to a safer position. Twelve hours after the incident, the tanker's engines were repaired, and the vessel was able to move to the anchorage area. An inspection of the tanker will be conducted before it will be permitted to leave port

NEW MEDAL is offshore Cape Town, which may explain its speed adjustments over the last 3 days
The NEW MEDAL, a VLCC, is understood to be #54 on the list of 113 vessels banned from entering Nigeria waters per the NNPC. However, the NEW MEDAL is continuing its voyage towards Bonny, Nigeria maintaining an ETA AIS declaration of 11 August. To achieve this ETA, the vessel needs to proceed at about 14knots. Currently, the NEW MEDAL is offshore Cape Town, which may explain its speed adjustments over the last 3 days, now proceeding at only 9knots. Get updates: http://info.genscape.com/vesseltracker
