Engine failure in Istanbul Strait

The 'Santorini', while en route from Burgas to Cadiz, suffered a loss of power and went adrift towards the shore at Kanlica point in the Istanbul Strait on Oct 14, 2020, at a a.m. The Coastal safety tugs 'Kurtarma-5', 'Kurtarma-11' and a fast rescue boat together with a technical team attended to provide assistance. The 'Santorini' was towed to Istanbul anchorage by the tugs. An incident investigation file was placed by both Harbour Master and the strait authority. The 'Santorini' was imposed a fine due to the breach of strait safe passage regulation. On Oct 15 the ship remained moored in pos. 40° 59.43' N 028° 58.29' E.

On Feb 26, at 7.45 p.m. the 'Santorini' reached the Weser estuary. Already at 11 a.m. the Towing Assssitance Team had disembarked onto the emergency tug 'Nordic'. About 10 nautical miles west of the l/h Alte Weser the tugs 'Bugsier 5' and 'Carl' joined the convoy 3, which was thereupon left by the 'Nordic'. The 'Santorini' berthed at the Columbus Quay on Feb 27 at 12.30 a.m. It was planned to replace the lost rudder blade at the Bredo Yard. The Central Command for Maritime Emergencies terminated its involvement at 8.15 p.m. The 'Santorini' entered a dock of German Dry Docks in Bremerhaven in order to get its rudder gear fixed by the Bredo Yard on Feb 28 at 7 a.m. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H73MkeO14Hs

Bugsier 30 towing disabled bulkcarrier towards the Weser

On Feb 26 between 2:20 a.m. and 3 a.m. the towing wire of the 'Santorini' was transferred from the 'Nordic' to the tug 'Bugsier 30' (IMO: 9416563). After the operation was completed, the 'Bugsier 30', escorted by the 'Nordic', started pulling the vessel towards the Weser estuary with a speed of about five knots with an ETA as of 9 p.m. The Towing Assistance Team continuously checked the towing connection. The team of the fire brigade Cuxhaven was taken off by helicopter as no further medical assistance was required. In the evening hours the tugs 'Carl' (IMO: 9112739) and 'Bugsier 5' (IMO:9376206) joined the convoy on its way Weser upstream.
