Docks worker dies after fall into ship's hull

Jan 28, 2012 10:30

A worker has died after he fell into the hull of a boat while shovelling coal on Immingham Docks. The man, whose identity and age is unknown, was on the MV Excalibur, which was berthed at Humber International Terminal One, when the incident happened at about 1.30pm yesterday. It is understood he fell into the hull and then became trapped under falling coal. It is believed that his work colleagues fought to try to free him – some with bare hands – before the emergency services arrived at the scene. At the time the incident was reported to the Grimsby Telegraph, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the man had sustained an injury to his neck.
