Sailings cancelled due to crew shortages

Sep 26, 2022 10:13

The Steamship Authority (SSA) announced on Sep 23, 2022, that a crew shortage forced cancellations to the service of the 'Sankaty', starting with the 11:05 a.m. sailing departing from Woods Hole. All of the ship’s trips on that day and the 5:30 a.m. route on Sep 24 from Vineyard Haven have been canceled. A crew member called in sick and the SSA did not have anyone who could work in their place. Automobile booking has been turned off for the Vineyard route to allow the terminal personnel to better accommodate passengers on those trips. Individuals with reservations on the 'Sankaty' who still planned to travel were asked come to the Woods Hole Terminal or Vineyard Haven Terminal at their reservation time to be placed in line for standby travel.

Drained batteries caused cancellations

Allision in Woods Hole

Dec 31, 2016 15:48

Ferry service between Woods Hole and the Vineyard was delayed slightly in the evening of Dec 30 ,2016, after the "Sankaty" allided with the "Island Home". There were no injuries nor serious damage to either of the ferries. The "Sankaty" was backing into a ferry slip in Woods Hole at about 6 p.m. when it bumped into the "Island Home", which was in the other slip. The "Sankaty" was scraped above the rub rail, which caused a slight crease in the bulwark. The "Island Home" was also scraped. There was no damage to the "Sankaty"’s hull, and the damage was mainly cosmetic and will be addressed the next time the ferry is hauled out for service and repairs. It wasn’t clear if the wind was a factor in the incident. The Coast Guard responded and gave the Steamship Authority the go-ahead to resume service. The "Sankaty"’s 6:30 p.m. trip to the Vineyard was delayed by about an hour and the return trip was also delayed. The "Island Home" continued to run on schedule.
