Ship with engine breakdown towed to Malaga

Feb 11, 2025 12:09

The 'Wilson Blyth' has taken refuge in the port of Malaga on Feb 6, 2025 at 12 p.m., and berthed in the eastern dock to fix a fault in its main engine. An engine breakdown had occurred en route from Rotterdam to Livorno with nine crew members and a cargo of fertilizer on board, after leaving Ceuta on Feb 4, which left the vessel without propulsion. The disabled ship was towed by the Greek-flagged tug 'Foteini Z', consigned by the Pérez y Cía. agency. The berthing manoever was assisted by the tugs 'Trheintayuno' and 'Trheintaycuatro'. The breakdown was centred on a leak in the cooling circuit of the main engine, and a team of technicians from a Spanish company went to the port of Malaga to carry out the repair. Using a cold welding system the damage was repaired. Some remaining works were being finalised on Feb 10. On Feb 11, after carrying out a series of tests and if there are no last-minute changes, the ship was due to continue its journey to the port of Livorno.
