Fire caused by generator explosion

The fire aboard the 'Samudra Sakti III' in the waters off Tarahan in Lampung on Sep 24 at 8.30 a.m. was caused by an explosion of the main engine generator at the stern and almost burned down the entire hull. The ship had been planning to berth at the port of Bukit Asam in order to take on a load of coal. The Indonesian Navy had deployed the patrol vessel KRI 'Cucut' and a Sea Rider response boat to the scene and rescued 26 people, besides the 19 crew members also two third-party technicians and five cadets from the AMI Medan Maritime Academy. One man suffereed a minor burn. The castaways were taken to shore at Bukit Asam, but the captain and several other crew members later returned to the vessel to assist with salvage efforts of three tugs.

Engine room fire off Bandar Lampung

In the morning of Sep 24, 2023, a fire broke out in the engine room of the 'Samudra Sakti III' at the Bandar Lampung anchorage, East Sumatra, in the Sunda Strait. The unloaded bulk carrier had arrived at the anchorage on Sep 21 en route from Singapore. The 26 crew members were evacuated from board. Tugs and fire boats were deployed to put out the fire. Engine failure in Suez Canal

The "Armonia" suffered an engine failure while transiting Suez Canal in a northbound convoy on June 25, 2018, at 3.20 p.m. between the kilometer marks 9 and 12 near Port Said. The ship dropped anchor and resumed the transit around 9 p.m. She was moored on Port Said Anchorage at 11.30 p.m. where she remained stationary in pos. 31° 19.40' N 032° 24.54' E on June 26. The ship had sailed from Saleef in Yemen on June 9.
