Samskip-Kvitnos

Shipping company Nor Lines has allocated its two LNG (liquefied natural gas) powered multipurpose vessels to a bi-weekly (liner) service from the SCA terminal in Rotterdam to the Norwegian coast: The MV Kvitnos and the MV Kvitbjørn. The ships are bunkering, like the Wes Amelie, with Titan LNG at the City Terminal in the Prins Willem Alexander harbour (port number 2790). The LNG is delivered to the vessels by trucks. The Port of Rotterdam and Titan LNG have set up the site temporarily to bunker LNG to sea-going vessels until there are sufficient LNG bunker barges available. Nor lines is a fully owned subsidiary of the shipping company Samskip. The fourteen-day shipping service runs through fourteen Norwegian ports such as Trondheim, Tromsø and Bergen. The MV Kvitnos and MV Kvitbjørn have a capacity of 1500 Lane ‘RoRo’ meters; 122 TEU containers, 1500 tons of refrigerated hold and a heavy load crane with 80 tonnes lift capacity. Source: Titan LNG

The “Kvitnos” attended a tug which had caught fire in Rystraumen in Tromsø.in the night of Feb 1, 2017. The tug operator had issued an emergency call at 9.20 p.m., reporting a fire in the engine room. The MRCC sent the lifeboat “Rescue Gideon” and contacted the Fire and Rescue Coordination Centre in Tromsø. While rescue boats were heading towards the vessel, the man grounded it at Larseng and saved himself onto the shore. He was taken care of by paramedics on site. The freighter was on site to assist. At 11.20 p.m. the “Rescue Gideon” towed the tug to Tromsø.
