No hint on settlement regarding Sheng Mu

Feb 02, 2012 23:13

The "Sheng Mu" is still under arrest in the Port of Napier because of a civil dispute in the Middle East without any hint of a settlement after a month out of action and berth fees mounting well over $40,000. The departure of the vessel has been prohibited by a High Court order under the Admiralty Act. It was placed under arrest after arriving on January 2. At the centre of the order is a dispute between companies in Dubai, but it does not involve Hong Kong-based operators Fenwick Shipping Services. Its berthage is subject to a daily fee based on its size, but that had increased over the time it had been in Port and there were extra costs of moving the ship within the Port to make way for other shipping, which has happened at least twice during the extended lay-off.

Sheng Mu arrested at Port of Napier over money dispute

Jan 11, 2012 10:05

A 144-metre arrested ship remained tied-up at the Port of Napier today, its departure delayed almost a week by a money dispute based thousands of kilometres away in the Middle East. The Sheng Mu, a 16,860-tonne vessel operated by Hong Kong-based Fenwick Shipping Services, arrived on January 2 and was to have departed three days later. But it's now under arrest, under an Admiralty Act order made in the High Court in Auckland last month, and unable to sail without resolution between disputing companies in Dubai.
