Paddle wheeler broke down
On Oct 1, 2025, the 'Waverley' broke down while sailing between Kent and Essex, while heading to Southend from Gravesend, when a fault was found in the port paddle wheel area. The cruise was terminated in Southend and its Gravesend passengers were provided onward transport. Repair were commenced in Chatham and expected to be completed by Oct 4, allowing the ship to continue with her Thames sailing programme which operates until Oct 12.
Valve of paddle wheeler broke
The first trip of the ' Waverley', scheduled from the West this season, had to be cancelled. The world's last seagoing paddle steamer arrived in the Bristol Channel on June 2, 2025,, ready to take passengers from thr Clevedon Pier. But the sailing was cancelled, because a valve on the boiler was broken and needed repairing. It was now hoped this will be done in time for the next trip on June 6. The ship remained sidelined in Cardiff.

Paddle steamer needs new bow
The 'Waverley' needs a new bow in the wake of her crash into Brodick Pier. Operators of the ship are once again seeking public donations, this time for a Covid-19 Relief Appeal, in a bid to reach a total of £500,000 to plug a massive hole in income. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch was currently probing the crash, which the Telegraph understands is the third inquiry into incidents involving the 'Waverley' since 2004. A statement issued by Waverley Excursions said: "Following heavy contact with the pier at Brodick, Waverley will receive a new bow when she is dry docked next spring ahead of the 2021 season. The cost of repairs to the bow will be met by insurance, and not from funds raised through the Covid-19 Relief Appeal. The appeal must raise more than £500,000 in total, with a target of £350,000 from individuals. Other sources of funding are being pursued with vigour given that winter maintenance work is well under way with insufficient funds to complete it." Around £2.3m was raised from the public and Scottish Government between 2019 and this year to save the ship and replace her boilers.
