Ferry damaged during turning manoever
A life threatening medical emergency forced the "Wangerooge" in the foremidday of July 20, 2017, to turn around on its way from Harlesiel to Wangerooge. A helicopter took the woman to hospital after the return to Harlesiel. During the turning manoever in the narrow fairway the rudder gear of the ferry was damaged and forced the ship to be repaired in a yard. On July 21 The "Harlingerland“ and the "Jens Albrecht“ were inserted in the schedule. On July 21 at 10.15 a.m. the tug "Jade Tug" (211226440) took the "Wangerooge" in tow to the New Jade Yard in Wilhelmshaven, arriving there at 5 p.m. The work to fix the jammed rudder was carried out by the Co. Rathmann Maschinenbau in Ritterhude and due to be completed on July 26.
