Tuvaq-W.

Two Baker Lake men survived a boating accident thanks to help from the crew of the 'Turaq W' crew in the morning of July 23, 2020. The two men had set out from the Kivalliq community by canoe. They were only about a kilometre from shore when the canoe capsized, sending both men into frigid water. The 'Tuvaq W' happened to be within sight, and the ship’s captain immediately sent a rescue team to recover the men. ithin 15 minutes of capsizing, both were successfully brought aboard by the crew of the tanker and were provided with immediate first aid. Fortunately, the men were both wearing personal floatation devices at the time of the incident. The Baker Lake RCMP and the community’s search and rescue crew also assisted with the rescue. Both men were transported to the community health centre where they were treated and released.

The 'Tuvaq W.', coming from Port Menier, suffered a failure of one of two main engines off Saint-Michel-de-Bellechasse, Quebec, in position 46 53 03.4 N, 070 56 18.4 W, on Dec 27, 2019, at 4.30 p.m. The tanker proceeded to Trois-Rivières and subsequently the crew carried out repairs. The ship remained stationary as of Jan 1, 2020.
