Prometei

The 'Prometei', which is under European Union sanctions, was unloading Russian naphtha in Mundra, a port being operated by the Adani Group on Nov 3, 2025. This was the first such incident since the conglomerate banned blacklisted vessels from its terminals. The tanker was carrying approximately 30,000 metric tons of Russian naphtha for the HPCL-Mittal Energy. The cargo was loaded on Sep 22 at the Russian port of Ust-Luga. This was the first sanctioned ship to call at Mundra Port since India's largest private port operator, Adani Group, owned by billionaire Gautam Adani, banned tankers sanctioned by Western countries from all its ports on Sep 11. The EU, the United Kingdom, and the United States have imposed a series of sanctions on Russian entities to curb Moscow's revenues intended to finance the war in Ukraine. Since the outbreak of the war, India has become a major importer of Russian naphtha, importing about 54,000 barrels per day so far in 2025. In October, naphtha shipments from Russian ports destined for India totaled approximately 185,000 tons, the majority of which were still in transit. In September, the figure was around 170,000 tons. In October, Adani denied the 'Rose Makis', carrying refined fuels chartered by Nayara Energy, a refinery sanctioned by the UK and the EU, access to Mundra port. The tanker itself was not sanctioned and carrying fuel destined for state-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corp, which has increased its purchases from Nayara. The 'Rose Makis' was diverted to Mumbai Port after Adani's refusal.
