True-North

On March 16, 2021, a helicopter of the 'True North' rescued the two of crew of an Australian Border Force (ABF) vessel off West Australia's coast which had overturned during a routine patrol off Dirk Hartog Island. The officers activated their vessel's Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), and a helicopter from the nearby 'True North' was called out to retrieve them by the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre. Both officers were rescued by the helicopter after they had swum ashore to the island. They were then taken to the nearest town of Denham, almost 100 kilometres away, for medical assessment and later returned to Perth. A damage estimate on the boat is pending until it has been retrieved from a beach on the island's west, 114 km via sea from Carnarvon. The vessel is one of the ABF's Coastal Class V2 craft and is estimated to be worth more than $500,000. Passengers and crew have escaped unharmed after the "True North" caught fire off Munster in the evening of Mar 7, 2013. The fire on the ship started while the boat was moored at about 5.15 p.m. Fire crews from Fremantle, Hope Valley, Murdoch and Success were called to the vessel after a report of a blaze on the third deck. The passengers and crew were safely evacuated from the ship and the fire was contained within about 30 minutes. It was not known how many were on board the vessel or what caused the fire.
