Cargo ship beached in storm
The 'Heiwa Maru' was beached by a storm with 15 crew members on board on Nov 30, 2021, at 6.10 p.m. near the Untenbaru fishing port at the western Okinawa coast on the opposite bank. The ship was approaching the port of Unten at the time of an accident. While being pushed aground, the ship damaged fish farm cages and fishing boats. A strong wind warning has been issued for the main island of Okinawa since Nov 30 with maximum wind speeds of 19,8 m/sec. The Nago Coast Guard was investigating the accident.
