In the evening of Jan 5, 2015, the engine of the "Trondheim" stalled while the ship was enroute from Krokeide to Hufthamar in the Kors Fjord. The ferry was about 900 meters from the shore then. The Coast Guard vessel "Ålesund" was dispatched after the MRCC in Southern Norway was notified about the main engine failure at 8.34 p.m. The ferry was struggling in severe weather off Austevoll and drifted towards the shore. The ship was taken in tow, assisted by the lifeboat "KG Jepsen".
