Future of water taxi yet to be determined

Apr 04, 2018 11:31

The future of the "Trini Flash" has not yet determined and will be determined from the findings of the cause analysis that is currently undergoing on the vessel. It was expected to take about one month to be completed. The "Trini Flash", which was used to operate the San Fernando to Port-of-Spain service, was chosen to service the inter-island service because both the "T&T Express" and the "T&T Spirit" were currently on -docked for repairs and maintenance. On Feb 11, 2017, the T&T Guardian reported that the "Trini Flash" was faulty and had to be replaced. It was disclosed that the vessel was back then experiencing prolonged sailing times. There had been numerous complaints from passengers travelling on-board the water taxi which was at the time said to be operating with several mechanical problems. As a result, the time spent travelling between San Fernando to PoS had increased from 45 minutes to 90 minutes.

Fire on water taxi

Mar 28, 2018 19:20

On March 27, 2018, a fire broke out in the ceiling of the engine room of the "Trini Flash". It was located on the vessel's starboard side and was successfully contained. The water in the engine room which was a result of firefighting was properly pumped out. 63 passengers and customer representatives were on board, however, they were not affected by smoke or water as it did not extend to the passenger accommodation area. The ferry "Cabo Star" was in the area and transported passengers back to Scarborough, arriving around 12:30 a.m. The passengers were reportedly accommodated in a guest house at the expense of the Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (PATT). They were expected to arrive in Trinidad via plane on March 28 on an early morning Caribbean Airlines flight to Trinidad. The "Trini Flash" proceeded to Staubles Bay, Chaguaramas, on its own power.
