Collision on the Wester Scheldt
On Mar 10, 2012, the Belgian dredger "Vlaanderen 1" (IMO: 8215883), whilst coming from Antwerp, was in collision with the "Trina" in the Nauw van Bath on the Wester Scheldt at 4.15 p.m. Tugs of Multraship from Terneuzen and the Unie van Redding- en Sleepdienst rushed to the scene to assist. While the "Trina" which was coming from Rotterdam, remained undamaged and proceeded to Anwerp where it berthed at the Churcihll Dock at 8 p.m., the "Vlaanderen 1" suffered some damage. . A small amount of oil leaked out, but could be rescovered by two anti pollution vessels. The dredger proceeded to Hansweert for surveys. An investigation was launched, and fog may have contributed to the accident.
