The coal cargo in a hold of the "NBA Van Gogh", which was berthed in the industrial zone of Torres port spontaneously ignited in the afternoon of June 4, 2018. The bulkcarrier was offloading the coal since May 30. The cargo was bound for the Ep Produzione in Fiume Santo. About 66,000 tons were left in the holds when the fire broke out. The crew shut off the affected cargo hold. Temperatures reached 280 degress timewise, but the situation could be brought under control in the run of the day with temperatures dropping to 100-80 degrees.
