Ship caused oil spill in Kocaeli
A fine of 1.286.000,440 TL was imposed on the 'Poarada' which was anchored at Safiport in Kocaeli’s Derince district and was determined to have contaminated the Gulf of Izmit with hydraulic oil it leaked as a result of the explosion of a hose in the hydraulic system of the hatch cover on Sep 13, 2021. Teams that carried out inspections with the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Sea Control aircraft determined that the hydraulic oil leaking from the ship polluted the Gulf of Izmit with the images they took from the air. After the detection, the teams that went to the port where the ship was located, surrounded the vessel with barriers and prevented the spread of the pollution. The municipality teams cleaned the oil layer on the water surface. As of Sep 15, the ship remained stationary in pos. 40° 44.46' N 029° 54.42' E at the Izmit Kocaeli Anchorage.
