Another time Russia has carried out drone strikes on two civilian vessels transporting food products in the Black Sea, injuring a seafarer and setting one ship ablaze on Jan 12, 2026. The 'Ata Voyager' was struck while waiting to enter port, en route from Barcelona to Odessa in ballast condition prior to loading a cargo of sunflower oil when struck by at least one Russian ballistic missile. One crew member was injured. He was later transferred ashore for medical treatment. The drone attack sparked a fire on board. On Jan 16, the tanker passed the Bosphorus enroute to the Hersekshipyard for repairs. The 'Blue Bead' (IMO: 9171113) was struck by at least one Russian ballistic missile, while departing the port of Chornomorsk with a cargo of corn with its lights off, in compliance with maritime corridor safety protocols. The attack slightly damaged its facilities and caused minor injuries to one seafarer. The ship has since left the danger area and is now in the Bosphorus, headed for Istanbul shipyards for repairs and the disembarkation of the injured person. The ship will no longer call at Ravenna, a historic hub for Black Sea traffic. The Black Sea trade routes are a critical corridor, particularly for products such as wheat, corn, and sunflower oil, reaching the global market.
