Crew member injured in knife fight

A 32 year old, Russian crew member of the "Leah" was stabbed twice with knife and had to be medevaced late at night on May 5, 2017. The vessel was north of the Isle of Lewis en route from Rotterdam to Straumsvik. The victim was medevaced by helicopter and taken to hospital in Stornoway. He was injured in a quarrel leading to a fight between him and another crew member. The vessel arrived at Hafnarfjordur on May 7, in the morning of May 9 it was still there. The police of the Dutch flag state was to conduct an investigation.

Cargo ship broke down in Pentland Firth

Two lifeboats were launched after a the "Leah" broke down in the Pentland Firth between Caithness and Orkney with its crew of 10 on Nov 27, 2015. The ship which was enroute from Rotterdam to Straumsvik got into difficulty one mile NE of Stroma at about 07:45 a.m. when the anchors failed to hold it against the tide and it started drifting. The ship lost one of its anchors as it attempted to steady the ship in rough seas. Wick and Thurso lifeboat crews were alerted at about 08:00 a.m.The lifeboats reached the cargo ship when it was still adrift about two miles south east of Duncansby Head. The sea conditions were challenging with 2-3m swell, a force six north-westerly wind and heavy showers. The "Leah"'s crew managed to restart the engines and resume their journey to Straumsvik in Iceland. On Feb 10 the m/v "Olivia" suffered machine failure while passing westbound the Kiel Canal being underway from Bremerhaven to Klaipeda. The ship came to rest perpendicular to the shipping lane between Oldenbuettel and Fischerhuette, thus blocking the traffic. The two tugs "Parat" and "Bugsier 14" were ordered and towed the shipp to the passing point Oldenbuettel so that canal traffic resumed at 2 a.m, Feb 11.
