Sanctioned tanker with Russian oil has discharge of cargo delayed due to insurance trouble

Nov 27, 2025 12:22

The Western-sanctioned 'Tigert 6' with Russian oil destined for the Indian Oil Corp has had discharge of the cargo delayed at a port in eastern India due to a hold-up in online verification of insurance cover provided by a Russian insurer. India earlier this year tightened insurance rules for ships calling at its ports, focusing on old and so-called shadow fleet vessels often used to carry Russian oil. The Aframax, which is under European Union and UK sanctions, was scheduled to discharge the cargo of ESPO grade on Nov 23, 2025, but was idling near Paradip port on the afternoon of Nov 26. The delayed offloading suggested that India has stepped up security at the ports. Since April, India has required online verification of insurance for ships covered by companies that are not members of the International Group (IG) to ensure that forged documents are not provided to Indian port authorities for berthing. Many shadow fleet ships are covered by non-IG insurers. The Russia’s Soglasie Insurance Co Ltd has provided cover to the vessel carrying oil for the state-run Indian Oil Corp. The cargo was supplied by a non-sanctioned entity. India recognises P&I cover provided by 19 non-IG insurers, including eight from Russia, helping the South Asian nation continue buying discounted Russian oil.

Tanker punctured by mine

Nov 25, 2020 18:52

A mine in the Red Sea off Saudi Arabia's coast near Yemen exploded and damaged athe 'Agraria' on Nov 25, 2020, the latest incident targeting the kingdom amid its war against Yemen's Houthi rebels. The blast happened before dawn and breached the hull about one meter above the waterline. The crew was safe, and there have been no injuries. The tanker has been boarded by Saudi officials. The 'Agrari' had loaded oil in Rotterdam which was discharged at the Shuqaiq Steam Power Plant. The U.S. Navy's 5th Fleet, responsible for patrolling the waterways of the Mideast, was aware of the incident. The Saudi-led coalition reported on Nov 24 that it removed and destroyed five Iranian-made naval mines planted by the Houthis in the southern Red Sea.

All merchant vessels in the area were advised to a lookout for the man. The area alerted The search area was part of Danish maritime rescue area, but since Sweden received the alert its Maritime Administration was coordinating the SAR operation.
