The "Orient Becrux" has left Newcastle on Jan 27, 2015, a day after it was detained for alleged safety breaches during an inspection by Australian Maritime Safety Authority officials. The International Transport Workers Federation said cargo should only be unfastened by qualified Australian stevedores while a ship is berthed, and untying the cargo put the crew's lives at risk, and shifting cargo could have caused the ship to sink. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority detained the ship in relation to issues identified with the vessel's Safety Management System and it's non-compliance with cargo securing requirements for the duration of its voyage. Overnight, an audit was conducted by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, the issuing authority for the Safety Management Certificate and the ship's Classification Society, and corrective action regarding ship board procedures and cargo securing was required. The ship was now heading to Port Lincoln in South Australia.

A bulk carrier ship has been detained in Newcastle after crew members were forced to unlash cargo while at sea. The Hong Kong-based ship Orient Becrux was placed under port state control when Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) surveyors boarded the ship at noon on Tuesday 27 January, Newcastle Herald reported. International Transport Workers Federation coordinator Dean Summers said the Filipino crew members had been illegally made to unlash cargo of 300 rail cars, before the ship arrived in port.
