Main ramp failed to open
On the morning of April 2, 2025, the Heraklion Port Authority was informed that during the docking process of the 'Asterion II' at the port, the main ramp failed to open. Immediately, officers of the Port Authority went to the ship to determine the damage. The ferry was carrying out a scheduled route from the port of Piraeus. 411 passengers, 151 private vehicles, 134 trucks and 12 motorcycles were waiting to disembark. 337 foot passengers, as well as the motorcycles, disembarked safely at the port, while the private vehicles and trucks remained on board the ship. The Central Port Authority of Heraklion banned the ferry from sailing, until the damage was repaired and a certificate of seaworthiness and class maintenance was presented by the monitoring classification society. On April 3, the ferry shifted to Perama for repairs.
Ferry suffered engine failure
On the early morning of Dec 22, the First Port Department of Tzelepi of the Central Port Authority of Piraeus was informed that the starboard side main engine of the 'Asterion II' had failed, while the ferry was en route from Heraklion to the port of Piraeus. Theship sailed to Piraeus with the assistance of a tug and disembarking the 990 passengers, 240 cars, 5 motorcycles and 88 trucks on board. The Port Authority banned the ship from sailing until the damage was repaired and a certificate of class maintenance was presented by the classification society that monitors it.
Ferry suffered engine damage
Onthe early morning of Dec 7, 2024, the Port Authorities of Heraklion, Chania and Rethymnon were informed about a damage to the port side main engine of the 'Asterion II' during the scheduled route from Piraeus to Heraklion south of Milos. The ship sailed under its own power to the port of Heraklion, where it safely berthed with the assistance of two tugs and then disembarked 491 passengers. The Central Port Authority of Heraklion prohibited the sailing of the ferry until the damage was repaired and a certificate of class maintenance was presented by the monitoring classifcation society.
