Feb 17, 2016 11:03

On Feb 14, 2016, at 2 a.m. the crew of the "Tellus" heading for SödertÀlje witnessed the fall of a car with the band Viola Beach from the SödertÀlje canal bridge but thought it was big chunks of snow. The tanker waited for the bridge to open when crew members saw something fall from the bridge, which was being openend, and contacted the Maritime Administration. The tanker was allowed to pass in spite of that and crossed over the wreckage of the car. On Feb 16 it became known that the Swedish Accident Investigation Board will investigate the accident. The band had been coming from a gig in Norrköping. For unknown reasons,it did not stop in spite of the flashing warning lights and twin booms but drove off the bridge, hitting a part of it and then plunged 25 meters down into SödertÀlje Canal. All five in the car died on the spot. Report with video: http://www.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/article22275164.ab
