Bulk carrier rescued 30 distressed migrants
The 'Pan Unity', en route to Port said, picked up 30 migrants in distress at sea and was heading to Malta in the morning of Dec 28, 2021. The migrants were believed to have departed Libya from Benghazi and ran into trouble after about five days at sea, when their boat started taking in water. Malta’s Armed Forces have so far failed to respond to pleas for help. A surveillance plane had flown over the boat but that no other support was forthcoming until the 'Pan Unity' changed its course and came to the people’s rescue. An Armed Forces of Malta spokesperson said they had no information about the matter.
