Bulkcarrier grounded on Columbia River
In the morning of Mar 27, 2015, the "Turquoise Ocean" briefly ran aground in the Columbia River off Longview, but later regained power and made its way to a berth in the southwest Washington City. There was no apparent damage to the ship or the river. The Coast Guard says no one aboard the 21-member crew was hurt. The ship lost power as it was headed downstream from the Port of Longview. It tried to anchor but went aground in soft sand. The vessel was carrying potash, an agricultural fertilizer. The hull will be inspected by the Coastguard before the ship can sail again, and the crew will have to prove it can sail safely.
Medevac off San Juan
On Apr 8, 2013, a Coast Guard boat crew medevaced a crewman aboard the "Turquoise Ocean" approximately 10 miles north of San Juan. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Juan received a report at 4:20 a.m. that a Filipino crewman aboard the bulk carrier was experiencing symptoms of a heart attack. Sector San Juan Watchstanders alerted Coast Guard Boat Station San Juan personnel, who got underway aboard a Coast Guard 45-foot Response Boat Medium to rendezvous with the Turquoise Ocean and conduct the medevac. The crew of the "Turquoise Ocean" was able to stabilize the patient on a litter and use the ship’s crane to lower him to the Coast Guard response boat. The Coast Guard boat crew transported the patient to Sector San Juan, where Emergency Medical Service personnel received him and transported him to the Medical Center Hospital for further medical care.
