World’s First MAS Integrated With Fuel Monitoring System Onboard MV Panamana

Eco Marine Power (EMP) has recently taken another step forward towards creating its multi-vendor platform for onboard ship systems by completing the integration of its Aquarius Management & Automation System (MAS) with the onboard fuel monitoring system installed on the large general cargo ship, MV Panamana, owned by Singaporean carrier Masterbulk.

Masterbulk trials Japanese battery solution on 54,810 dwt ship

As part of a joint project with Singapore owner Masterbulk, Japan’s Eco Marine Power (EMP) announced today that an UltraBattery battery pack manufactured by the Furukawa Battery Company has been installed on the large general cargo ship, Panamana. This battery pack will later form part of an Aquarius Marine Solar Power solution developed by EMP and be evaluated jointly with Masterbulk and Zeaborn Ship Management. The battery pack installed on the ship incorporates class-approved UB-50-12 valve regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries along with a marine-grade battery frame kit. This combination allowed for the batteries and frame kit to be loaded onto the ship and installed by the ship’s technical team with only remote support being required. The frame kit for the batteries was manufactured by Teramoto Iron Works.

On Oct 15, 2014, at 9.15 a.m. the CROSS Jobourg was notified by the Dutch Caostguard of a suspected stroke of a crew member on the "Panamana". This diagnosis was made during medical consultations requested by the ship and the specialized center of Den Helder. The ship was 100 kilometers northeast of Barfleur in the French area of ​​responsibility, so the Joburg CROSS organized and directed the evacuation of the 46 year old Filipino sailor. The CROSS Joburg mobilized an EC 225 helicopter of the Navy base in Maupertus and a military medical team of the Medical Army Center in Querqueville. 20 minutes later, the EC225 was on scene and the medical team was winched aboard the freighter.
