The "Pacific Quartz" ran aground at Durban harbour on Oct 3, 2014 at 3.15 a.m. The ship has been ballasted to keep her upright. There were two pilots on board keeping the port control informed of the situation and advising the ship's master of local conditions. The ship suffered damage to a ballast tank on the starboard side just in front of the accommodation quarters and began to take on water while she was heading for Island View eight in swells of five to six metres and a wind speed of eight to ten knots.
