Containership saved distressed yacht crew
The "Pacific Islander II" rescued three people on Sep 26, 2013, from a yacht in distress in the South Pacific. The "Pacific Islander II" was sailing from the Tongan port of Nuku’alofa to Noumea, New Caledonia. While en route the NYK containership received a request from New Zealand's Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre to assist the crew of a stranded yacht. The "Pacific Islander II" immediately maneuvered toward the yacht and rescued all three aboard at 7:13 p.m. LT. The rescued crew members were in good health and disembarked from the "Pacific Islander II" at the port of Noumea on Sep 28. The cargo ship left port again on Oct 1 bound for Kaoshiung with an ETA of Oct 12.
