Trawler unsafe to sail - unpaid crew started hunger strike
The 12 crew members of the "Odoevsk" have declared a hunger strike on Dec 18, 2018. They required immediate payment, as they feared for their health and life on the vessel, which they said is in extremely poor condition. The vessel was currently proceeding off the southeast coast of Kamchatka, heading for Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy. The crew said the vessel was in disrepair and should not have been allowed to sail on its current voyage. However, the shipowner refused to let the crew leave the vessel, did not provide transport to their homes and threatened them with penalties. Currently, the situation on the trawler was being investigated by the Russian prosecutor's office. The "Odoevsk" arrived in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy on Dec 26 at 05.30 a.m.
