Cruise ship had to change itinerary
After the unplanned call at Bremerhaven on Nov 17, the 'Queen Mary 2' manage dto depart Southampton, UK, on Nov 19 for her scheduled transatlantic crossing to New York. Two medevacs in Spanish waters
On April 17, the SAR helicopter Helimer 215 medevaced a sick passenger from the 'Queen Mary 2', which was sailing 28 nautical miles from Garrucha. The SAR boat 'Salvamar Deneb' medevaced a sick crew member from the oceanographic vessel 'Vizconde de Eza off Santander. Thwe operations were coordinated by the CCS of Salvamento MarĂtimo in AlmerĂa and Santander.
Almost 250 people struck by norovirus
The norovirus outbreak aboard the 'Queen Mary 2' has left over 224 passengers and 17 crew members ill, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The ship was en route from Southampton, England, through New York and the Caribbean before returning to the UK, having departed on March 8 and being set to return on April 6. The sweeping norovirus outbreak was reported to the CDC on March 18. In response to the outbreak, the ship and crew increased cleaning and disinfection procedures, collected stool specimens for testing and isolated people who had fallen ill.
