Queen-Anne

On the night of Sep 21, the CCS Almería of Salvamento Marítimo together with CCS Cartagena coordinated the medical evacuation by helicopter of a passenger and a companion from the 'Queen Anne'. The cruise ship was enroute from Messina to Malaga. The patient was hoisted aboard the helicopter and taken to shore, where an ambulance was waiting at the airport for the further transfer to a hospital for medical care on a higher level.

Passengers aboard the 'Queen Anne' have been warned that pirates are active in the area, while the ship was sailing through the Sulu-Celebes Sea near the Philippines, en route from Darwin to Manila. There was a loudspeaker announcing: "This area is known for piracy threats...therefore we will be operating at a heightened level of security alertness during this period." The external promenade deck was being closed to guests from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from March 14 to March 15, 2025, and only essential lighting would be used at night and that guests should draw their curtains. All the blinds were shut, and the lights were down to the minimum during the night. According to Cunard, as part of standard maritime procedures, their captains may make precautionary announcements when sailing through certain regions. There was no specific threat to the ship or its guests, and the onboard experience remained uninterrupted. The ship berthed in Manila on March 16. The 111-night journey of the 'Queen Anne' had set off in Hamburg on Jan 7. The ship will return to Hamburg on April 29 after visiting England, New York, Hawaii, Mexico, New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines, Vietnam, South Africa, Singapore and Malaysia.

Plymouth RNLI's relief All-Weather Lifeboat ‘Volunteer Spirit’ was requested to launch by Falmouth Coastguard to assist with a medical evacuation from the 'Queen Anne', en route from Southampton, UK, to Cadiz, 1.5 nautical miles south of the Plymouth Breakwater on Sep 23, 2024, at 5.39 a.m. The lifeboat, launched from the Millbay Marina at 6.15 a.m. and made best speed towards the cruise ship, already diverting to Plymouth from the English Channel, and finally rendezvousing just before 6.25 a.m. Once on scene the patient was assessed by the casualty care crew, and in consultation with the cruise ship’s medical team the decision was made to evacuate the person to the lifeboat via the pilot ladder to be taken back to the Plymouth Lifeboat Station into the care of South Western Ambulance Service for onward treatment in hospital. The Rescue 118 helicopter was mobilized for a medevac from the 'Queen Anne' off the coast of County Donegal on May 31, 2024. The cruise ship was located 40 nautical miles north of Tory Island, en route from Invergordon to Greenock. The helicopter hovered above the decks of the ship, with a crew member being winched down. One of the ship’s passengers was winched onto the helicopter to receive further assistance.
