Grounding on Paraná
The "Zeta Star" ran aground on the Paraná river in the morning of Oct 4, 2016, uptown of San Pedro. The ship which was loaded with 40000 tons corn was en route from San Lorenzo, where she had sailed at 3.30 a.m., to Cape Town. The ship got stuck at the Isla del Medio near San Pedro in the Buenos Aires Province on a sandy mud shallow and requested assistance. A rescue boat with divers was dispatched, which aimed to inspect the underwater part of hull for damages. The bulkcarrier was currently obstructing navigation in the main channel in both directions. For the time being, only vessels with a draft of up to seven meters were allowed to transit the grounding site. The ship could be refloated on Oct 6 by the tugs “Ranquel” und “Yagan” and resumed the voyage to Cape Town, ETA Oct 19.
