Bulkcarrier suspected to have ruptured pipeline
An underwater gas pipeline, operated by thePT CNOOC Indonesia, broke up near Pulau Panjang Island in the Banten Province, northwest of Jakarta, on July 9, 2018, and caused a major gas leak, which formed a big bubble on the surface. Navigation near the gas leak site was restricted. In the morning of July 10, the restrictions were still valid, but it was not clear if gas escape was stopped. Authorities suspected that the pipeline was ripped up by an anchor of one of the ships anchored nearby. The main suspect was the coal loaded "Lumoso Raya" which was moored in the closest position to the ruptured pipeline. An investigation was under way.
