The leak in the hull of the "Rav" which remained berthed in Finnsnes during that time would take at least two days to be patched. In the morning of Mar 15, 2014, the "Rav", being fully loaded with solder and bound to Værøy ran onto an underwater rock in Gisundet which punched a breach of 15-20 centimeters in the bow section. The vessel took in water and docked at the Lund Quay in Finnsnes. The fire department was called at 9 a.m. and starteed to dewater the hull. Oil was leaking from bottom tanks , and the ship was surrounded with oil booms. Also, the Coast Guard which had forces nearby which had joined the exercise Cold Response, assisted with pump equipment and divers. The rescue forces gained control of the situation. Efforts were underway to remove the spill with absorbent booms. In the evening the "Herøy" went alongside for a transfer of the 940 tons capelin and further transport to Værøy. The accident happened in snow drift and poor visibility when the ship hit an unmarked shallow with the bow. The light has recently been removed as the southbound shipping lane off Finnsnes has been diverted towards Finnsnes and the vessel took the old main lane close to Silsand.
