Acid leakage from ruptured hose

Oct 22, 2025 13:17

During the unloading of the cargo from the 'NQ Rosa' in the port of Saint Malo, the leakage of 2,000 liters of phosphoric acid was detected on Oct 20, 2025, at 5.30 a.m. 24 firefighters were mobilized to the port. The firefighters' unit specializing in chemical risks responded to the incident at the Jacques Cartier Quay. The leakage was caused by a ruptured hose on the tanker. The acid spilled into a retention tank, splashes ended up on the quay and in the basin. A security guard, who was on his rounds, was transported to the emergency room after coming into contact with the phosphoric acid. The response was completed at 1 p.m., and the security perimeters have been lifted then. The acid shipment was bound for Phosphea, a subsidiary of the Roullier Group. The company confirmed there was no contamination of port waters and that cleanup on the quay was ongoing. The tanker left the same day en route to Runcorn with an ETA as of Oct 22.
