Nova-Star

After a two-hour crossing from Gdańsk to Nynäshamn, the 'Nova Star', carrying 115 passengers, was forced to return to the Tricity area on the evening of Nov 21, 2015, assisted by tugs. The cause was an engine failure. The ferry was expected to resume operations on Nov 24. The ferry, which departed at 6:00 p.m. for Nynäshamn, near Stockholm, was returned to the port of Gdańsk at approximately 8:00 p.m., The following sailings of the ferry from Gdańsk to Sweden have been canceled: November 21 from Gdańsk at 6:00 p.m., - November 22, 2025 from Nynäshamn at 6:00 p.m.

On Aug 7, 2021, a man was suspected of having fallen over board from the 'Nova Sun' in the Baltic Sea. The Swedish Coast Guard was looking for the missing person by helicopter. Also a lifeboat joined the search. The man in his fifties, was last seen in a drunk state in the night when the ship was at Hoburgen on Gotland on its way to Nynäshamn from Gdansk. His company reported him missing in the morning of Aug 8. The Swedish Maritime Administration was regarding the case as a suspected accident. After the ferry arrived in Nynäshamn, the police was on site and searched through the ship. Passengers leaving the ferry were checked, and the police spoke to the man's acquaintances.

Following months of delays and uncertainty, Polferries’ chartered ro-pax NOVA STAR entered service on the Gdansk-Nynäshamn route on 14 September. Original plans were for the ferry to have entered service at the end of March, with the in-service date being changed nine times since then.

The NOVA STAR – a 2014 Singapore-built ro-pax ferry which has been on charter to Moroccan operator Inter Shipping since February 2016 – has been sold to Polferries to take up the route between Gdansk and Nynäshamn in late March.
