The 'Murat Ilhan' rescued the 10 Ukrainian crew members of the cargo m/v 'Eileen' (IMO: 9070503), which had sailed from Bartin enroute to Ukraine on Oct 11, 2025 and had suffered a leak with ensuing water ingress 140 miles east of Varna on Oct 12 at 1.14 p.m. The crew tried to stabilize the situation, but the ship developed a strong list and began to sink. They issued a distress signal, which was received by the MRCC in Varna. The last transmitted AIS position was 43° 14' N 031° 05' E at 11.42 p.m. UTC. A Bulgarian border patrol boat, a Romanian ship, a nearby Turkish support vessel, and a Bulgarian Navy helicopter were dispatched to the scene. The corvette “Bodri“ was put on alert too. The crew abanndoned ship in two life rafts and was taken aboard the 'Murat Ilhan' at 7:31 p.m. The on-site medical examination confirmed that no air evacuation was necessary, and the sailors were transported to the port of Filyos in the northern Turkish province of Zonguldak. The Bulgarian Navy helicopter returned to base, and the Bulgarian and Romanian boats were released from the SAR operation. The causes of the accident were being investigated. Bulgarian and Turkish services confirmed that there were no signs of sea pollution in the area of ​​the sinking. During recent inspections the 'Eileen' was repeatedly detained in the ports of Georgia, Greece and Turkey due to violations of safety requirements. The "Offshore Fund 3" has to sell one of its two supply vessels, the "E. R. Haugesund" which is unemployed, according to fund initiator Nordcapital, since October 2015 in the Caribbean. As a result of the crude oil oversupply and low prices, the oil production in many offshore oil-producing regions is no longer covering the costs and in the direct result many drillships and rigs are currently not required. The global utilization of rigs has dropped to below 80 percent. Consequently, the demand for supply vessels has decreased significantly. Now investors are to decide a private sale of the ship by mid-March 2016. The 2009 launched fund remained far back behind expectations, investors have paid a total of only 15 percent to date.
