Man who fell over board recovered dead

A 79-year-old man has died after falling overboard from the 'Norwegian Star' off the coast of Canada on the early morning of Aug 12, 2025. Guests onboard the ship reported hearing the ship's public address system announcing 'Code Oscar' which lets staff on the vessel know that someone has gone overboard. The ship changed course at 3.53 a.m. LT as rescue missions began. The search and rescue team covered roughly three nautical miles during the 29 minute search and recovered the body of the man, who had already passed away and was pronounced dead at the scene. The ship then rediverted to its next port in Nuuk, where it arrived on Aug 14. The incident took place on day six of a two week, one-way cruise from New York to Reykjavik, having departed from Corner Brook on Aug 11.

Cruise ship suffered power outage off New York

The 'Norwegian Star' had to return to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal in New York due to a power outage just a couple of hours of embarking on her current 14-night Transatlantic crossing on July 12, en route to Halifax with an ETA as of July 14.. The power has been working intermittently, and there was no air conditioning or running water onboard. The cause of the power outage was currently unknown. Tugs assisted the ship back to its berth. After troubleshooting, the ship sailed again on July 14 at 4.30 a.m. UT.

Advanced call at Puerto Madryn for a medevac

The scheduled call of the “Norwegian Star”at the Piedra Buena dock in Puerto Madryn on Jan 16, 2025, at around 6 a.m. advanced to Jan 15 at midnight due to a passenger's health problem which required urgent medical attention. Given this situation, the action protocolwas activated to facilitate the care that the condition required. The planning outlined for the visit of the “Norwegian Star”, including the excursions that were carried out in the usual way, and at the times that were already assigned, remained unaffected. The shipcast off at 4 p.m. to continue its journey north, where it will end the trip that began last week.

Storm forces cruise ship to depart early

The storm Babet forced the 'Norwegian Star', with 2,279 passengers and 1,003 crew members on board, the final cruise ship of the year in Douglas, Isle of Man, to depart early. The vessek had arrived in Douglas Bay in the morning of Oct 19, 2023, with guests set to tour the island and its heritage sites until 7 p.m., but was forced to depart due to choppy waters, in which the tender boats were unable to operate. Cruise Isle of Man thanked the Captain and crew of the 'Norwegian Star' for sending a tender ashore to try and effect the call. Crew members disembarked in Rotterdam

On May 20 the 'Norwegian Star' has arrived at the Port of Rotterdam to repatriate crew members. It has about 200 crew members on board, mainly European and Dutch, who will disembark to return home. The ship is scheduled to set sail from the port at noon after disembarking the on-board personnel. The crew must be picked up and escorted to their transit or final destination and the operation was carried out at the request of the authorities and in accordance with the strict measures currently applied due to the worldwide situation by Covid-19.
