Cruise had several itinerary changes

Jul 22, 2022 11:08

Passengers aboard the 'Norwegian Getaway' were facing several itinerary changes, which were reported when the ship had already sailed. The first port of call, Norwegian Cruise Line's private island in the Bahamas, Great Stirrup Cay, was shortened by an hour, complicating tours on land. The next stop, which was to have been St. Thomas, was removed without replacement. In the third, San Juan de Puerto Rico, the departure was brought forward from 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. And the one that was the final port of the original itinerary, Amber Cove, in the Dominican Republic, was brought forward two days. The last two days of the itinerary are scheduled to be sea days, with the ship arriving back in Port Canaveral on Saturday, July 23, 2022. Shore tours that had been booked for St. Thomas were automatically canceled and refunded, while the date and time of shore tours at Amber Cove were also adjusted. No explanation was given for the multiple adjustments or the loss of the port of call, other than "unforeseen circumstances" indicated in a letter.

The 'Taxiarchis D' picked up the patient and sailed to the Athinios Port from where an ambulance transported him to the Central Polyclinic of Santorini for medical treatment, while the ship continued its voyage from Mykonos to Neapel.

After a two-week dry dock that included millions of dollars in renovations, Norwegian Getaway completed its first sailing out of Copenhagen and is gearing up for its summer season of Scandinavian, Russia and Baltic sailing. Getaway’s changes after its late May 2019 makeover include new venues and artwork, updated social spaces and refreshed accommodations and decor. The ship now features Norwegian’s first onboard, full-service Starbucks available in the European market and Syd Norman’s Pour House, a popular rock ‘n’ roll-themed entertainment venue. Also, nearly 800 pieces of art -- 20 percent of which are originals -- were added throughout the ship.
