Medevac off Unst
A coastguard helicopter has been tasked to evacuate a medical casualty from the 'Norröna' early on July 9, after a call was made for assistance at around 5.40 a.m. as the ferry was sailing north of Unst on her way to the Faroes. The Rescue 900 helicopter had been tasked to carry out the medevac. The rescue operation was under way at 7.30 a.m.
Man who fell overboard presumes dead
A man fell overboard from the "Norröna" off the Norwegian coast on the evenin of June 28, 2025. The Norwegian Rescue Coordination Center launched a large-scale search operation, which was concluded without success at around 10:45 p.m. The man was now presumed dead. The alert was raised at 8:15 p.m. by the Faroese authorities, who had been informed by the crew of the "Norröna." The ferry, which operates between Hirtshals and Tórshavn had launched a search, sailing a zigzag course and a search pattern. The ship continued its journey at around 9:45 p.m. towards the Faroe Islands.
More ferry sailings cancelled
The "Norrøna" obviosuly had trouble with the rudder engine. One of the propellers has been removed in drydock. Also the ttrip to Thorshavn has meanwhile been cancelled. Actually it was being planned that the ferry will return to its regular schedule on Oct 21, coming directly from Hirtshals. The ferry left the Øresund shipyard in Landskrona on Oct 20 at 7.30 a.m. and headed to Hirshals, ETA 9 p.m.
Ferry stranded with engine trouble
The "Norrøna" with about 700 passengers aboard suffered engine trouble in the afternoon of Oct 14, 2017, and had to drop anchor off Hirtshals in northwestern Jutland. The ferry was underway from Thorshavn to Hirtshals. In addition to the 700 passengers on board the ferry, hundreds of travelers were also waiting in Hirtshals waiting to be taken to the Faroe Islands. A tug finally pulled the ferry into port 10 hours delayed at 11.30 p.m. On Oct 15 at 5.40 a.m. she headed to the Øresund shipyard in Landskrona, where the "Norrøna" will be docked. The journey to Landskrona takes 12 hours. A lot of tourists will stay on board while the ship is in the dock. A new schedule about the return trip to Thorshavn was expected to be issued on Oct 17.
