Engine failure in Kiel Canal
Enroute from Rotterdam to Klaipeda the "Norrland" suffered a complete engine blackout on Nov 29, 2018, during the westbound transit of the Kiel Canal. The ship had entered the waterway in Brunsbüttel at 1.50 a.m. and stopped in Dükerswisch. The disabled vessel was waiting for tug assistance which was, howver, not available before the foremidday as a large tanker on Brunsbüttel roads needed all available tugs. At 9 a.m. the ship was still waiting in the passing point in pos. 54° 2.22' N 009° 18.25' E. At 11 a.m the tugs "Bugsier 15" and "Bugsier 17" arrived on site. They pulled the ship back to Brunsbüttel where it was berthed at the South Quay at 12.45 a.m. She sailed again after repairs on Nov 30 at 9 p.m. and resumed the voyage to Klaipeda, ETA Ded 2, 11 a.m.
