Disabled ship drifted aground
The 'Samudra Sindo 38' ran aground in the waters of Bolo Village, Mantoh District, Banggai Regency, Central Sulawesi (Sulteng) on Aug 25, 2024, at 9.30 a.m. WITA. It got stuck in pos. 01°03.018' S, 123°17.724' E with the bow, All 14 crew members were reported safe. There was no risk of direct pollution as the ship was unloaded. At around 3:30 WITA, the ship had siffered engine trouble, but could not anchor because the sea depth reached 1600 meters. Instead, it drifted in pos. 01 ° 00.825' S, 123 ° 00.300' E. After bad weather hit, the ship drifted 13 nautical miles from its previous position. It finally dropped anchor in pos. 01 ° 03.018' S, 123 ° 17.724' E, but strong winds pushed the ship aground,. A refloating attempt at 3 p.m. failed.
