Collision with fishing boat
The 'Asahi Maru' was in collision with a fishing boat at on Feb 23, 2021, around midday off the Chiba Prefecture coast in northeast Honshu. The fishing boat bow was heavily damaged, but managed to return to port under own power. Six people on board of the fishing boat, including four anglers, were injured. The 'Asahi Maru', which was enroute from Chiba to Kushiro, had to interrupt voyage and divert to Kashima, where she arrived later on Feb 23.
