Nordic-Malmoe

On Dec 6, 2025, the 'Nordic Malmoe', enroute from Hamburg to Mersin, reported via VHF channel 16 that there was a fire on board with heavy smoke in the engine room in the Alboran Sea, while crossing the Strait of Gibraltar en route to the Mediterranean. The CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in Tarifa mobilised the tug 'Luz de Mar' ( (IMO 9320104) to the scene. The crew of the bulk carrier then reported that the fire, could be extinguished. It had occurred in the compressor room, but did not affect the main engine. The 'Luz de Mar' thereupon returned to Algeciras. The 'Nordic Malmoe' had departed from Hamburg on Nov 28 and was scheduled to arrive in Mersin on Dec 13.

The 'Nordic Malmoe', en route from Murmansk to Fos sur Mer with 17 crew members and a cargo of 33.500 tonnes of coal on board, suffered a problem with its main engine cooling jacket in position 56 32 17.5 N, 007 23 57.5 W, on Feb 28, 2020, at 5 p.m. and was stopped to carry out repairs. On Feb29 at 4.10 a.m. the repairs were completed and the vessel resumed its voyage with an ETA as of March 9.
